New designations

On October 5, 2010, Minister Terry French announced three new designations under the Provincial Historic Commemorations Program:

  • "The Founding of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary" as an event of provincial significance
  • "The Tsunami of 1929" as an event of provincial significance
  • "Rescue at Sea and the Heroism associated with such Events" as a distinctive cultural tradition or practice. The Harvey Family of Isle aux Morts, Captain William Jackman of Renews-Cappahayden, and the rescues made following the wrecks of the USS Pollux and USS Truxtun near St. Lawrence were commemorated as representative of this category.
