PHCP Board Meeting
Nominations Reviewed
The Provincial Historic Commemorations Board will review June submissions at their next meeting in October.
Nominated subjects in this category-either individuals or groups of people-must have been active in Newfoundland and Labrador, or their work must have had a significant and demonstrable impact on the province, our way of life, or how we view ourselves.
Submissions must demonstrate that the nominated subject(s) had an impact on the province as a whole - that is, their influence went beyond the local community - and that they had a direct and tangible link with events, ideas, cultural traditions, or beliefs of provincial significance.
The Provincial Historic Commemorations Program will consider designating only those persons or groups of people who lived or worked in the province, and only if 10 or more years have passed since their death (in the case of an individual) or the end of their period of activity and influence (in the case of a group of people).
Examples would be people such as Sir Wilfred Grenfell, Mattie Mitchell and Shanawdithit.
