About Us

Provincial Historic Sites have been designated by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador under the Historic Resources Act because of their historical or architectural significance. While many are interpreted for the public, there are others which are preserved and protected but are not operated as visitor attractions.

Over the next few years, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation is undertaking an initiative to renew its system of Provincial Historic Sites with a view to:

  • Making our sites more engaging for visitors
  • Increasing visitation by local residents
  • Attracting more school groups
  • Broadening the range of important stories and themes that are interpreted
