Know Before You Go
Location: The Cape Bonavista Lighthouse is located at the end of Cape Shore Road just outside the Town of Bonavista.
Parking: Free public parking is available in a parking lot at the entrance to the site as well as by the Interpretation Centre. Blue zone parking is available by the Interpretation Centre.
Opening Hours: Closed for the 2023 season
Accessibility: The Interpretation Centre entrance has several steps with a handrail. The back entrance to the building is accessible via a boardwalk and ramp. The lighthouse entrance has 8 concrete steps with a handrail. Second floor of the lighthouse is accessed via a narrow curved staircase with a handrail. The tower is accessed by a narrow, steep, curved staircase with no handrail. The lighthouse is not equipped with ramps, elevators or lifts. Seating is available.
Washrooms: 2 accessible, non-gendered, single use washrooms with baby change tables located in the Interpretation Centre.
Grounds: Site grounds have paved areas, gravel paths and natural paths. The area has uneven, rocky ground with steep cliffs and visitors are asked to tread carefully.

Activities and Events
- Join an interpreter for a guided tour or explore the site on your own
- Tour the interpretation centre exhibit
- Talk to an interpreter in the lighthouse about the 24-7 job of lightkeeping in the 1870s
- Climb to the top of the stone tower and see the rare 19th-century lamp that once guided mariners to the seal hunt and Labrador fisheries
- In summer, watch puffins from the colony next to the lighthouse
- Snap a photo – this is one of the most photographed sites in the province
- In summer, watch for icebergs, whales and other marine life offshore
